As the government plans to pay teachers employed by the Board of Management, a dark cloud of uncertainty has reigned the wishes and expectations of teachers who do not have the TSC number.

In a circular issued to all County Directors of Education, the government through the Ministry of Education has instructed both primary and secondary school heads to submit data for verification and subsequent payment.

However, data to be captured are; the name of the county, name of the school, and teachers’ TSC number which most do not have.

Albeit, in 2017, the government issued a stern warning to the school heads for both public and private schools against hiring individuals who are not registered with the commission or those who were deregistered for gross misconduct, it has been noted that most teachers employed on BOM do not have the TSC number.

Speaking to Education News, a BOM teacher who has been teaching in one of the public secondary schools received the heartbreaking news wondering about the imminent fate of his education which has been solely dependant on the salary from the institution.

“I have been working in the institution since 2018 while attending part-time classes at the University of Nairobi so I don’t think I should be blamed for not having the TSC number,” said a teacher seeking anonymity.

However, school heads are urged to submit duly filled forms to directorsecondary2018@gmail.com for secondary schools and directorprimary@gmail.com for primary schools.
