Likuyani Member of Parliament (MP) Innocent Mugabe has urged the government to adopt a fair and transparent mechanism for the allocation of development funds to secondary day schools.
Mugabe argued that day schools, which cater for a significant portion of student population, deserve equal access to resources in terms of infrastructure and educational opportunities for their growth and improvement.
He called for a review of the existing policies and the establishment of clear guidelines that prioritize equal access to resources for all schools, irrespective of their boarding or day status.
“It’s time for the government to recognize and rectify the discrimination faced by day schools in the disbursement of development funds,” he said, speaking during the issuance of NGCDF bursary cheques at Matunda SA Primary school.
The MP said that the current system of allocating resources disproportionately favors boarding schools, leaving day schools at a significant disadvantage.
“These schools cater to a vast number of students, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, and they deserve the same opportunities for growth and improvement as their boarding school counterparts,” he said.
Mugabe noted that this disparity not only perpetuates inequality but also hampers the overall quality of education provided by day schools.
“It is our responsibility as elected representatives to champion the rights of our constituents and ensure that they receive equitable opportunities,” he affirmed.
