Bomet University College (BUC) and Koiwa Technical Training Institute are set for a major transformation following President William Samoei Ruto’s approval of modern student villages at both institutions.

The initiative is expected to ease accommodation pressures and enhance the student learning experience, while contributing to Bomet Town’s development as a regional education hub.

This comes after the officers from the State Department of Housing and the National Housing Corporation officially took over the BUC site in Bomet Town to kickstart construction of state-of-the-art hostels. BUC, which currently enrolls close to 10,000 students, has seen rapid growth over the past years.

The new housing facilities will ensure students have access to safe, modern, and well-equipped living spaces, supporting both academic success and overall student welfare.

Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok lauded the government’s intervention, describing it as a critical boost to the institution ahead of its anticipated university charter.

“We are grateful for the continued support from the national government. These hostels will provide students with much-needed accommodation and strengthen Bomet as a center of learning and innovation,” he said.

The local business community has pledged to complement the initiative by offering additional housing solutions, reflecting a growing partnership between the public and private sectors to address the rising demand for student accommodation in Bomet Town.

The education experts say the move goes beyond student welfare—it is expected to catalyze economic growth, create jobs, and reinforce Bomet Town’s reputation as an emerging hub for higher education in the region.

With modern student villages now on the horizon, Bomet University College and Koiwa TTI are poised to provide world-class facilities that will benefit students, the local community, and the wider county for years to come.
