Speaking at a Press briefing in Machakos, soon after visiting her former Teacher in Nairobi, Governor Ndeti said she knew the tribulations that the Odingas went through during the struggle for the second liberation of the country, as she witnessed her teacher, Mrs Idah Odinga, being ejected from staff quarters at The Kenya High School during the reign of the late President Daniel Arap Moi.

“I saw the tribulations that his wife went through when I was a student at the Kenya High School. Mama Idah, I know you are a strong woman. Be strong and God will see you through,” she said.

Wavinya Ndeti would later serve in the same Parliament with Mr Odinga from 2008 to 2013.

“Baba (Raila) loved his country. He was a patriot.

In 2008, I was very young and I met the heavyweights in the 10th Parliament; Raila Odinga was there, Michuki, Njenga Karume, and Harun Mwau and truly many of the older generation of leaders were patriotic and loved this country,” said Governor Ndeti.

She said the late Mr Odinga often told them that he was fighting for a new constitution for the sake of future generations.

Governor Ndeti added that Mr Odinga has left a legacy through his strong belief in devolution and that there is a need to strengthen it.
