Governor Ndeti awards scholarships worth Ksh8M to high school students

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has awarded scholarships worth Ksh8 million as part of the new County Scholarship programme for high school students drawn from the 40 wards in the county.

Speaking during the programme’s launch at the Whitehouse, Machakos, Ndeti congratulated the beneficiaries who she said were picked through a transparent process by the Ward Scholarship Committee.

Governor Ndeti urged them to remain focused on their academic journey and asked parents and guardians to ensure that the children remain committed and dedicated to their studies.

“Education is important. We have seen children who inherit billions but without education, the wealth soon goes to waste,” she said.

Ndeti called on teacher unions, banks, the Ministry and other well-wishers to come on board the programme to ensure more children get access to education.

Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Machakos branch Chairman Derrick Mutunga urged the students to work hard in their studies.

“There were other deserving students but the county government picked you. Do not disappoint,” he said.

County Director of Education (CDE) Margaret Mwirigi observed that the Ministry had also sponsored 258 other students from the county through the Elimu Scholarship programme.

Speaking on behalf of parents, parent Japheth Muli, expressed gratitude to Governor Ndeti for the support.

“We are eternally thankful for what you are doing to our children. We don’t know what we could have done without your support,” he said.
