Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya flagged off six secondary school teams to the East Africa Secondary School Games on Friday, August 8, 2025, pledging greater county investment in sports development.
Speaking during a send-off ceremony at Kitale Club, Natembeya commended the students for their discipline and performance, which earned them a place at the regional championships set for next week in Kakamega. He said the county had fully facilitated the teams’ travel and accommodation and would continue to fund grassroots sports.
“You are not just going to play for your schools, you carry the pride and spirit of the whole of Trans Nzoia. Play with honour, and return with more glory,” Natembeya told the teams.
He urged leaders to keep politics out of school competitions, warning that politicising sports risked dividing young people.
