Governments urged to train boda boda riders on road safety

By Enock Okong’o

Former nominated Councilor for Magenche Ward Mr. Samuel Obwaya has asked both the national and county governments to consider training boda boda riders on road safety.

Speaking at Botaranda village in Kenyenya in Kisii county, Obwaya claimed that most   motor cycle riders  engage in the motor cycle riding business without any knowledge on road safety hence they jeopardize motorists and pedestrians.

‘We are losing a lot of lives on road carnages because of careless riders.’ He said.

Obwaya consoled the parents of Immanuel Onchari who perished after being hit by a speedy motor cycle at Mesabakwa shopping center along the Kenyenya-Etago road.

10 year old Onchari was a grade II pupil at Botaranda Primary School.

Ezekiel Ontita, the grandfather of the deceased, said he lost a very bright grandson whom he depended on to run quick missions.

Area chief Mr. Samuel Omambia confirmed the death.

“The child died instantly on the road as the rider was rushed to hospital for medical attention,” he confirmed.

Kenyenya Sub county director of education George Ouma said he heard the sad news from the chief and promised to comment on it after receiving official communication from the school’s head teacher.
