GG Rumuruti High School were crowned Laikipia County boys’ handball champions after defeating defending champions Surveyor Secondary School 16-5 in a thrilling final played at Ndururumo High School during the term one games.
The victory marked a historic milestone for GG Rumuruti, who lifted the county title for the first time after an outstanding campaign.
In the semi-finals, they produced a commanding performance to thrash Nanyuki Garrison Secondary School 23-2, stamping their authority as serious contenders.
Surveyor had secured their place in the final after edging out Kurum Mixed Day Secondary School 7-5 in a closely fought encounter.
GG Rumuruti’s journey to county glory began at the Laikipia West Sub-County games, where they eliminated immediate former champions Gatundia Secondary School to clinch the sub-county crown.
They carried that momentum into the county championships, maintaining consistency and discipline to emerge the new champions.
Head coach and Senior Principal Sammy Githungu lauded his players for their teamwork, resilience and determination, noting that their preparation and unity played a key role in the triumph.
“This is a proud moment for our school. The boys have worked hard and shown great discipline throughout the competition.
Winning the county title motivates us to aim even higher at the Rift Valley games,” said Githungu.
