KATTI Secretary General and Principal Township TVC Shadrack Tonui has encouraged students who are joining local and overseas universities to learn a skill in TVET first.
He said an extra skill is of great benefit and enhances chances of them earning income while studying at the university.
“Some skills in wiring or any other enables the concerned trainee to execute some immediate tasks which enables them earn income as they pursue other major undergraduate courses,” he advised.
The principal was speaking during the ongoing celebration of 100 years of TVET in Kenya where a Centenary Flame is being relayed around the country.

The national celebrations, said the principal, kicked off early this month when President William Ruto set off the flame at Nyeri National Polytechnic, which signified the core values of innovation and creativity in TVET.
The principal said the flame will go round the country for four months through all the 47 counties and culminate in Kabete National Polytechnic, urging the government to tarmac all roads leading to TVET institutions as part of the celebrations.

Director of the Kabianga Town Campus Dr Reuben Lang’at called for the empowerment of youth to pursue courses in Agriculture, which he observed will achieve food security targets.
The TVET Coordinator/Director for Kericho and Bomet counties Peter Cheruiyot said private colleges will get funds from the government as requested.
