After thirty five years since they completed their secondary education, old boys of St. Paul’s Gekano High School in Nyamira County traced their roots back to the institution where they have started working on improving the Library and an ICT class in the decades old institution.
The school which is situated in Kitutu Masaba Constituency last received support from the government seven years ago from former Member of Parliament Timothy Bosire who helped to renovate some classrooms while the current MP Shadrack Mose has managed to donate five computers to boost learning at the school.
Last week, the old boys who completed from the institution in 1986 led by Gerald Akoko managed to clear the refurbishment of the library with shelves, painting, chairs and tables plus floor tiles to the amusement of the school during the exercise which was presided over by the school Principal Albert Ombiro and his Parents Association Chairman Jason Oanda.
Other school alumni who attended the occasion were Francis Moriasi, Kennedy Okondo, Joseph Ogeto, Lukas Omangi, Mwebi Mokaya and Evans Swara who are in different professions ranging from teaching, procurement, economy and law.
The team was impressed with the school performance which had dwindled in the last fifteen years, some of the successes being a student population increased from 100 to now 635.
They regretted that the dining hall did not have a single table and promised to pull resources and join the class of 1987 led by Dr. Daniel Atuke who has promised to make 100 benches.
The principal Mr. Ombiro lauded them for the good gesture and implored the other alumni in various years to emulate them so that they can help to change the shape of the institution.
Ombiro said that two dormitories which are under construction have stalled due to funding and extended an appeal to good Samaritans to assist on their completion so that students can get to use the accommodated.
