Games competitions begin taking shape in Migori

Girls teams tussle in the preliminaries.

Day one of Migori secondary schools games came to a close as competitions in different genres started taking shape, performances by teams already pointing to the knock out stages.

Hosted by Rapogi Boys High School, all the ten sub-counties presented teams in basketball, netball, rugby and hockey for both boys and girls who were placed in pools in the preliminaries.

Jowi Girls overcame their arch-rivals Moi Nyabohanse in basketball to book a place in the finals.

Agengo Girls remain unbeaten in hockey in pool A, and according to the coaches, they might face Ajengo which dominated in pool B by beating Dede Girls in their bid to defend their county title.

Migori County Heads Association Chairman Raymond Omogi said most sub-counties prepared their teams well this year to take the competitions a notch higher than previously.

A team gets through the formalities before the start of the games.

“Each sub-county looks confident of their teams but the finals will determine the winners,” he said.

Kehancha and Iraha are set to continue their rivalry in handball following their balanced power in the match. Previous match-ups between the two have been exciting to watch.

During the opening of the games, Migori County Director of Education Jacob Onyiego appealed for a high level of discipline from both students and teachers to make the tournament successful.

He asked participants to take sports seriously the way they take subjects in class because the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is tilted towards it.
