Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has presided over the inauguration of 49-member team dubbed the ‘Working Party on Education Reforms’ who were appointed by the President to review the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) education system.

The Party is expected to study all laws governing the basic education subsector and make recommendations for review with an aim of  addressing duplication, ambiguities, efficiency constraints and improving linkages.

The President was optimistic that parents would get relief as the team would ensure that there was equitable access to education especially for those facing social, economic and geographic limitations.

“Concerning tertiary and university education, the team will review and recommend a governance and financing framework for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)  development, university education, research and training,” he added.

The taskforce which is chaired by Professor Raphael Munavu was further granted powers to invite and consider views from sector stakeholders and members of the public.

“The working party is also expected to furnish the Head of State with a progress report after every two months from the date of appointment and a final report at the end of term,” he stated.

The University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Gitahi Kiama, former Kenyatta University VC Prof. Paul Wainaina and the 2019 Global Teacher Prize winner, Peter Mokaya Tabichi are also part of the review team.
