Fury as over 2,000 teachers stranded after Mudavadi rally

Stranded teachers after CS Mudavadi's rally at Tande Secondary School.

Over 2,000 teachers were left stranded until late in the evening on Tuesday at Tande Secondary School in Malava Sub-County after attending a political delegation addressed by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

What was promised to be a short, well-organized meeting turned chaotic, with teachers going home hungry, tired, and without transport refunds.

It is reported that Mudavadi had disbursed a total of Sh1.5 million to cater for transport reimbursement. However, allegations of mismanagement soon surfaced.

Many teachers, who had left their homes as early as dawn, endured hunger throughout the day, only to be told the meeting, which lasted hours would originally take just two and a half.

Sources claim that clerks stationed at the venue to register teacher attendance were also tasked with distributing transport refunds. However, they failed to follow proper procedures such as verifying TSC numbers against approved lists, a situation that led to non-teachers benefiting.

The most affected were teachers from Kabras East, the home area of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi. “How come our names do not appear on the list despite registering?” one teacher asked in frustration. “Have some lists been hidden?”

Some teachers who registered their names on foolscap papers were outright denied facilitation, with clerks dismissing those records as null and void.

Many of the affected teachers expressed regret for attending the event, vowing never to participate in any political meeting.
