Former St Anthony’s star Aldrine Kibet signs KSh864 million deal with Spanish club Celta Vigo

Kenya’s teenage football sensation Aldrine Kibet has officially signed for Spanish La Liga club Celta Vigo in a landmark deal worth €6 million, approximately KSh864 million.

The attacking midfielder, aged 18, is a standout performer for Kenya’s U20 national team and has now become one of the country’s most valuable football exports, marking a significant breakthrough for Kenyan talent on the global stage.

Kibet’s rise has been meteoric. From dazzling in national school games to earning MVP honours at the Valladolid International Cup in Spain, the young playmaker has consistently shown talent beyond his years. His performance—six goals and three assists in the tournament—caught the attention of top European scouts, eventually leading to trials and a formal deal with Celta Vigo.

Fans, leaders, and analysts alike have praised the transfer as a testament to what young Kenyan players can achieve with the proper support and exposure.

Kibet started his football path in Baringo, then making waves while playing for St. Anthony’s Kitale during national school tournaments.

His creativity, speed, and goal-scoring ability earned him a spot in Kenya’s U18 and U20 teams and, later, an opportunity to develop further at Nastic Sports Academy in Spain.

The deal is also being viewed as a gateway for more Kenyan players to enter the elite European football scene.

Hailing the transfer, former Harambee Stars coach Twahir Muhiddin saying that it would inspire a new generation and improve the national team’s competitiveness in future competitions.

As Kibet embarks on this next chapter with Celta Vigo, expectations are high—not only for his development as a player but also for the broader impact his success may have on Kenya’s football ecosystem.
