A family whose five-year old daughter was mysteriously murdered and her body dumped by a stream in Bar-Agulu sub-location within Alego/Usonga Sub-county is crying for justice.
The body of Jane Velma, who was a pre-primary 2 pupil at Kirindo Primary School, was found beside the stream on September 6, 2022 after she left home for school never to return.
Velma’s mother Elizabeth Atieno Omondi says the little girl left for school as usual but failed to return by lunch time, a matter that raised suspicion before she called the school to enquire of her whereabouts.
She, together with the child’s father Paul Omondi, was shocked when they were told by Velma’s teacher that the small girl never reported to school on that day.
Elizabeth immediately began searching across the village and after a fruitless mission for several hours, they got a call from the teacher that there was a child whose body had been discovered at Nyajaya stream.
She later confirmed that the body was that of her daughter and that it had signs she must have been defiled and then strangled to death.
Velma’s father Paul Omondi laments that one week since their daughter was murdered, they have heard nothing from the security agencies that were conducting investigations.
He has appealed to them to expedite so that the killers of their daughter can be arrested and brought to book.
The slain child’s grandmother Wilchister Olule has equally called for the intervention of children’s rights organizations to have the culprits arrested to save hundreds of children who are in danger of falling in the cruel hands of such murderers.
