A family in Bureti, Kericho County, is appealing for help to trace a 17-year-old Grade 10 student who has been missing since Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Maureen Chepkoech, a student at Korongoi Girls Secondary School and a resident of the Tebesonik (Bakoiyot) area, reportedly disappeared under circumstances that have left her family and authorities seeking answers. Current reporting also identifies Maureen, popularly known as Chelel, as a Grade 10 learner at Korongoi Girls in Bureti Sub-County.
According to the family, Maureen left behind a note before she went missing. The contents of the note have, however, been kept private by the family as investigations into her disappearance continue.
She was reportedly last seen at Barabara junction, where she boarded a boda boda that already had an unidentified female passenger on board.
The identity and whereabouts of the motorcycle rider and the woman who was accompanying the student remain unknown.
Family reports disappearance to police
The family reported the matter at Cheborgei Police Station on Wednesday morning, September 2, before being directed to Tebesonik for further reporting and follow-up.
Published accounts indicate that Maureen’s mother went to Cheborgei Police Station on Wednesday morning and was directed to report the matter at Tebesonik.
The family is now appealing to members of the public to provide any information that could help establish Maureen’s whereabouts and ensure her safe return.
Anyone who may have seen Maureen or has credible information concerning her whereabouts is urged to contact the family through 0727 619 099 or report to the nearest police station.
Appeal for information
The family has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and share credible information with the authorities to assist in the search.
The circumstances surrounding Maureen’s disappearance remain unclear, and the identities of the boda boda rider and the woman reportedly travelling with him have not been established.
