Eregi Teachers Training College in Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega has County is set to become a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
This announcement comes after the government said that the TTC would admit the first cohort of 3,000 students from September this year.
Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said the college would offer Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses.
“The new constituent college will offer enhanced courses unlike the current TTC that only issues certificates and diplomas,” Dr. Inyangala said.
The PS who was addressing the press in Kakamega town after holding a meeting with Barasa and Ikolomani MP Benard Shinali, among other education stakeholders from the County, had earlier conducted a visit to the institution to assess its preparedness ahead of the upgrade.

“We conducted a thorough inspection of the college and are satisfied with the level of preparedness,” said Barasa.
The leaders said they were confident that the institution would admit students to capacity and help decongest MMUST located in Kakamega town.
MMUST Vice-Chancellor Solomon Shibailo said the university was capable of managing the new constituent college.
“This is a big score for the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and we shall ensure we offer the highest quality of courses at Eregi,” he said.
Prof. Shibailo added that students would undertake a wide-range of courses including Education, Sciences and Humanities.
Shinali urged management of the upcoming constituent college to give priority to residents of Ikolomani whenever there are opportunities at the institution.
