Education stakeholders at St Mary ACK Gatondo Primary School in Manyatta constituency, Embu County are in mourning following the death of a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student who was hit by a vehicle as he walked home from school yesterday evening.
The school’s head teacher J. Mwangi confirmed the sad news after receiving a report about the incident from the police.
Eye witnesses revealed that the boy was hit by a school van which was overtaking another vehicle along Embu-Siakago road less than a kilometer from the school.
A motorist who had just arrived at the accident scene took the badly injured boy to the hospital where he passed on.
Classmates had a tough time coming to terms with the passing on of their colleague. They nearly rioted today but teachers and Rev Peter Kavanda from ACK Diocese of Embu managed to calm them down.
A teacher confirmed that they had held several counseling sessions with the JSS students to help them cope with the death of their colleague.
Burial preparations are set to commence.
