Moi High School Mbiruri was ranked the best school in Embu county in 2021 KCSE after scoring a mean grade of 8.8.
The school’s principal Nderitu Maina said the class had 275 candidates but one did not seat for the exams.
12 students scored A plain, 36 scored A- ,63 B+ ,55 B,46 B- ,33 C+ , 8 C and 23 C-.
Speaking to Education News, Nderitu said that the school had recorded a bigger improvement compared to last year’s results.
He noted that the achievement was a result of corporation amongst all stakeholders in the school.
“We are proud of the results. The number of students who qualified for direct admission into universities greatly increased,” he said.
Pascal Njiru was the best candidate in the school after scoring Grade A of 81 points.
“I attribute my exemplary performance to hard work and discipline,” Pascal said.
He added that he desires to join the University of Nairobi and pursue medicine and thereafter bring a solution to the ailing health sector in the country.
Kyeni Girls High School also performed well after scoring a mean of 8.4. It was ranked as the second best school in the county.
Three students scored Grade A while 15 students scored A – (minus).
St Bhakita Siakago Girls had a mean score of 7.83. The good performance surprised many as 102 candidates out of the 158 candidates who sat the exams qualified for direct university admission.
“As a community, we’re happy that our school excelled in the exams,” said Muriuki Nyaga, a resident at Siakago.
Kangaru Girls in Embu West had a mean of 7.54 while Kangaru Boys had a mean of 7.05.
Education stakeholders in the county said the girls’ schools in the county dwell compared to the boys’ schools.
Embu county director of Education James Kairu said that generally, all schools performed well compared to last year.
