Young people in Garissa should embrace technical skills that will enable them secure jobs instead of tarmacking in search of elusive white collar employment, local leaders have said.
County Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane said negative attitudes was hindering many youth from pursuing technical courses.
He said the County Government has invested heavily in Garissa Vocational Training Institute.
Dagane said the institute was offering free training to young people in the county.
“It is unfortunate that technical institutions have very few students despite the county government making courses free,” said Habiba Nasib, county education executive.
Abakaile ward representative Mohamed Ali said the county assembly is ready to implement necessary legislation to help the youth in the county.
The leaders were speaking during enrolment drive of vocational training which is funded by European Union and implemented by Aga Khan Foundation in partnership with the Garissa County Government.
