Teachers in Kisii County have been urged to embrace Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance integration, learning and linkages with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and other government institutions.
Speaking during the 19th Nyanza Region Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA) Annual Conference at Gusii stadium, County TSC Director Anne Wachira also appealed to school heads to support elderly teachers adapt to the ever-advancing digital technology by using their phones to ease their work and shun cyber cafes to fill sensitive documents.
She challenged the teachers to use digital technology to support teaching and learning, noting that ICT promoted collaboration and eased communication among them and learners.
“The Commission has digitized its services and schools have computers teachers can use so they do not expose their private data such as passwords in cyber cafes,” Wachira said.
KEPSHA Nyanza region Chairman Elly Ondieki lauded the county governments in the region for employing Early Childhood and Development Education (ECDE) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
He however urged county bosses to employ more teachers to cope with increasing enrolment and remunerate them well to boost motivation.
Ondieki appealed to Governor Simba Arati, who graced the event to aid in construction of pit latrines for ECDE learners to ease their learning experience.
Arati agreed to the request and added that the county will improve playing grounds to assist learners exploit their talents in sporting activities.
He also said that the county has partnered with private partners to provide learners with shoes to prevent jigger infections and appealed to the school heads to identify affected learners and forward their names to his office.
