The embattled Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Samburu branch Executive Secretary William Lengoyiap has vowed to retain his seat and later run for a national position in the forthcoming polls despite being removed from the union leadership and taken back to class.

What I can tell you for free is that I’ll be in the ballot in 2026 defending my Samburu seat and later run for a national seat, that’s a dream that cannot be deferred.  I have just been removed as an official not from the union, because the union is about paying union dues and being a paid up member, and am a paid up member and I am paying my union dues,” said Lengoyiap.

In a letter dated September 18, 2025 and signed by Cavin Anyuor, Director Legal, Labour and Industrial Relations on behalf of TSC Secretary/CEO, Lengoyiap was notified of posting after receiving the communication from KUPPET Secretary General of his removal from the union leadership.

His deployment comes few days after he had declared interest to run for a national seat in the 2026 polls. KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori in a statement dated July 28, 2025 removed Lengoiyap and Yvonne Mutindi from branch leadership of Samburu and Machakos respectively over various charges after conclusion of the disciplinary processes. Mutindi was the Machakos branch vice-chairperson.

Lengoiyap was removed from office over allegations of forged payslips while Mutindi was facing allegations of misconduct which they both denied. Lengoiyap moved to court to challenge the union disciplinary decision, a case that is still ongoing.

Early last year, Lengoyiap and other two branch officials namely Omondi Oluoch of Tana River and Moses Kimwere of Isiolo were also posted back in class a move they fought it court.

In the posting letter dated January 23, 2024, Lengoiyap was asked to report to Kirisia Secondary School in Samburu and later changed and was posted to Samburu Mixed Secondary school to teach Biology and Agriculture.

However, the moved was quashed by the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Meru on grounds that elected Executive Secretaries have a clear term of service of 5 years and can only be redeployed only when they fail to be reelected.
