Elite school volleyball teams from Western and Rift Valley regions are gracing the Arhur Odera Open Volleyball Tournament that is taking place at Malaba Stadium today.
National girls volleyball champions Kesogon from Rift Valley that beat Kwanthanze 3-1 in the finals last year to clinch their maiden national title are in Pool A that also has Amus College from Uganda and Mwira from Western.
Twenty-one time national champions Lugulu Girls from Western are in pool C with Chester College (Rift Valley) and Aluor from Nyanza. Lugulu, which last won the national and East African titles in 2009, will use the tournament to revive their lost glory since they will face top class teams, including national champions Kesogon.
BumbeTechnical Training Institute, Butere Girls and Bishop Sulumeti are in pool B, with pool D encompassing Sikri College, Lugulu B, and St John’s RC Savanah Secondary from Western.
In the boys category, East African secondary schools champions Cheptil and national secondary schools runners up Andersen, both from Rift Valley, are in pool A, which also has Amus College (Uganda) and Mwira.
Two-time East African champions Malava Boys and national bronze medalists Namwela from Western region are in pool D with Bumbe and Cheptil B.
Pool B has Sikri Technical and Vocational College for the blind and deaf from Nyanza, Katakwa, Apokor, and Yalusi (Western), while pool C will encompass Chester College (Rift Valley), Buhuyi, Butula, and Malava B.
