Educationists in Nandi County have demanded the speedy completion of the Koitalel Samoei University.

Led by Emmanuel Kipleting they said delayed completion has not only caused frustration but slowed down development in the region.

Speaking in Nandi Hills, Kipleting questioned why the project has stalled despite being allocated millions of shillings.

“The university will bring in a large amount of revenue on a yearly basis and increase the supply of human capital in the region that’s why we are advocating for its completion,” he said.

He appealed for the urgent intervention of President William Rutto, whom they said is well versed with the institution and the needs of locals.

Kipleting questioned who local leaders have gone silent, noting that they will not rest until the project has been completed and fully operationalised.

David Karanja echoed the sentiments, saying that the institution will enable students access higher education with ease, unlike now when they travel to other counties to quench their thirst for higher education.

“Apart from empowering the region, building institutions and nurturing favourable regulatory frameworks and governance structures, university education is vital to the country’s effort to increase social capital and to promote social cohesion. There is no short cut, the project must be completed,” said Karanja.

The foundation stone for the University was laid by Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018, but to date, the project has not been completed.

The University’s main campus ought to have been in Samoei in Nandi Hills and its satellite campuses put up at the sub counties.
