Educational stakeholders across the country have been urged to ensure learners embrace creativity skills as a way of opening their minds to the vast global innovations market.
This will help them develop, learn and embrace the essence of self-employment and sustainability especially during these times where formal employment has become scarce.
The Kakamega county music festival chairman Rasto Mukabane speaking during the kick off ceremony of the Kakamega county 2025 music festival held at Friends Malava comprehensive school in Kakamega North sub county, said this year’s theme “Enhancing the creative economy through artistic expression for sustainable development” was in tandem with the new syllabus competency based curriculum (CBC) being rolled out in schools across the country.

He added that the ongoing music festival was the right place for talent tapping as learners expressed themselves differently through dance, music, poetry, drama and spoken word.
“This year’s music festival is more competitive, as we have included junior secondary schools, who are the pioneers of CBC syllabus, this is important as learners are to be conversant with skills relevant for the 21st century and so far we are seeing very creative and competent learners showcasing their unique talents and as stakeholders we are able to classify them, to the rightful place they belong in the future” said Mukabane.
The chairman observed that the competition was high due to more entrants in the fete.

He also expressed hopes that the county was prepared to clinch the top national position following its exemplary performances being witnessed at the county level.
“The county last year did well in different categories at the national level and we expect this year to do even better considering the high levels of creativity at play.” He said
“We are also looking forward to having our regionals at Kaimosi in Vihiga County from 13/14th June with the nationals being held in Meru County from 2nd -14th August 2025 where all the champions from the cluster, zonal levels will be culminating in the nationals and later East African championships.
