The Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA), through the State Department for University Education and Research has advertised scholarship opportunities for interested individuals to apply.
The scholarship offers qualified citizens of the East Africa Community (EAC) to apply for cohort 3 of the German Development Bank KFW- funded scholarships to pursue Master’s studies within EAC partner states but away from their own home country.
The scholarship programme targets young EAC nationals within the age bracket of 35 years and below drawn from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The sponsorship covers a period of two years.
The scholarship opened its application door from 27th August, 2021 to 17th September 2021. According to the circular seen by Education News, the thematic areas are Mathematics, Engineering, Informatics, Science, Technology and Business Science.
Women and persons with disability are encouraged to apply as the female have been given a minimum 30 per cent in slots. In addition, special consideration is gifted to Burundi and South Sudanese female applicants.
The IUCEA scholarship has a package of 63 vacancies for the 2021/2022 academic year. The student’s grant which is directly paid to the university further gifts a return air ticket between the candidates’ home country and the host country.
Further, the circular indicates that a stipend of Sh49, 000 per month is offered to support living expenses which includes food, housing, utilities, local transport and settlement expenses.
In addition the master’s education grant with a bias for at least an equivalent of upper –class Honours Distinction also offers a one off allowance for study materials and research at Sh194, 000.
