Students who passed through the hands of retired Principal Reuben Sereti have mourned him as a great scholar, academic father and mentor who shaped and left a positive mark in their lives.
Speaking at Kisii town after learning about the demise of the retired principal.
The alumni of various schools he headed before he retired termed him a tremendously strict but fair disciplinarian.
Led by Protus Onchong’a, they appealed to their colleagues working in different parts of the world to join hands as they reverently mourned their departed hero.
The former Principal of Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School, Chief Principal Albert Ombiro, mourned him as a deep-thinking educator who nurtured many teachers and academic administrators.
Ombiro, an academic attache in China, said that the late Sereti lived a selfless life. He always yearned to see every teacher and learner succeed, and he asked principals to emulate him.

Ombiro, who talked to Education News on the phone, prayed for the family of the deceased to gather courage and strength to enable them to come to terms with the demise of their loved one during and after the mourning period.
The late Sereti, a mathematics teacher, will be remembered for reviving many dying schools in Kenyenya Sub-county through his down-to-earth leadership skills, which won him favour from teachers, students, and the community.
He exceptionally revived Kenyenya Secondary School, which started in 1978 and had been lagging behind because of a lack of community support, by mobilizing the local community to love and develop their school.
“He was posted there and found 160 students only, but his good management led to the school’s population reaching 600 students within one year and starting to post good results,” said Nyanza Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman Paul Mainga.
Mainga challenged the present Principal of Kenyenya Secondary School to lead the school by looking at the Institution’s development history and trying to leave it better than he found it.
“Three years ago, the community closed doors on its former principal and expected this one to perform, but we have not seen any expected improvement.
Noting that Kenyenya Secondary School is centrally placed within Kenyenya town, Mainga appealed to the Community to use this occasion of mourning its former Principal, Sereti, who loved it, to join hands and find ways of improving its infrastructure to enhance its examination performance.
He recalled the good times when the sub-county director of education, Anthoney Barasa, was there and the school raised its standards. He then challenged current administrators to follow suit.
Mainga was speaking at Kenyenya town after learning about the passing on of Sereti.
