Masaba North Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) Gabriel Ogano has condemned parents for ridiculing teachers before their pupils.

He said teachers are professionals who are custodians of knowledge and deserve respect in the discharge of their duties.

Ogano was speaking at Nyabogoye Primary School in Nyamira county where he deescalated tension as parents wanted to cane the headteacher over alleged gross mismanagement of the institution.

According to the school Parents Association (PA) Chairman George Kumenda, who led parents to air their grievances, they had warned the head teacher against indulging in alcoholism during school hours but he did not heed their advice.

Some of his teachers followed suit in the drinking spree and failed to report at school several times leading to the falling education standards.

“No child has ever scored more than 200 marks in KCPE examinations for the last four years because of this lazy man,” claimed one of the parents.

During the second term this year, the parents held a consultative meeting in the school and sought transfer of the school head.
