Chesta TTC students in West Pokot find their voice, form Theatre Club to hone skills

Chesta TTC students in West Pokot have formed a theatre club aimed at improving their English and Kiswahili proficiency through creative expression.

The Chesta Teachers Training College (TTC) students have made a breakthrough by forming a theatre club to sharpen their English and Kiswahili skills while entertaining their audience.

“As we were freshers during the first year, we did not realise our talents, but as the year progressed, we started realising that each one of us has different potentials,” Said Brian Chepkui, the group’s communication officer.

“When we entered the second year, we created time for practice, especially during weekends, to sharpen our skills, ” said Esther Ndiema, an active group member.

The group members, who number about 15, specialise in various items including Drama, Skits on Topical Issues, Spoken words, News Reporting, Poems and Mashairi, Script and Articles writing, to mention a few.

The group recently received a standing ovation from the guest of honour, Honourable Rebecca Lotuliatum, the CEC for Education in the County Government of West Pokot, along with parents and tutors of Chesta TTC, during the opening of a new dormitory at the college.

“The group members will now fully focus on practice after realising that their presentations were appealing to their audience. We will also be entertaining students, tutors and parents whenever there is any activity or function in the college,” Said Brian Andiema, the chairperson of the group.

Margaret Cherotich, a tutor at the college, said that the group members have great potential if they are well nurtured, encouraged, and supported.

“In fact,  most of the group Members participated in this year’s music festivals up to the regional level,” added tutor Cherotich.
