Dr Yumbya exits Kathiani Girls after transformational tenure of academic and structural growth

Dr. Daniel Yumbya is exiting Kathiani Girls’ High School after serving two impactful terms as the Chairperson of the Board of Management (BoM).

He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of transformation and visionary leadership. 

Under his stewardship, the school witnessed sig infrastructure developments, including the ongoing construction of a 600-capacity dormitory.

Yumbya has also envisioned a solution to the school water problem through the installation of a solar water plant system, a water purification system designed to provide clean and safe drinking water, among other ongoing projects.

Academically, Kathiani Girls has experienced a dramatic rise during his tenure. 

When he joined the board in 2019, the school had a mean score of 6.63. That number has since risen steadily, peaking at 9.12 in 2022, while in 2024, it was 8.14.

The school has topped Machakos County for three consecutive years, earning respect both locally and nationally.

Dr. Yumbya has also been instrumental in lobbying for resources, enhancing school governance, and strengthening stakeholder relations. 

He championed not only academic excellence but also discipline, innovation, and a strong co-curricular presence.

Speaking during the school’s prize-giving day and the launch of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, Dr. Yumbya expressed his satisfaction with the school’s progress.

“Kathiani Girls is scaling greater heights. I’m proud of what we have achieved together, and I wish the school continued success in the years ahead,” he said.

School Principal Damaris Munyao lauded Dr. Yumbya for his selfless service and dedicated leadership.

“We are truly grateful for his time, guidance, and commitment. As a school, we have grown under his leadership. We wish him blessings in all his future endeavors.”

Dr. Yumbya will be remembered for his unwavering passion for education, firm yet inclusive leadership, and the transformation he steered at Kathiani Girls,a legacy that will endure long after his term.
