Presidential aspirant, Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has promised to ensure school girls receive free sanitary towels throughout their education once elected president.

“Provision of sanitary towels will reduce dropouts and absenteeism for our girls due to lack of female hygiene products,” he said.

The DP was speaking during the official launch of the Kenya Kwanza Women’s Charter at the Nyayo Stadium.

The aspirant said that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will also implement a return-to-school plan for teenage mothers who drop out of school due to pregnancy.

In addition, they will receive automatic bursary to go back to school as part of the commitment to boost enrolment of women in learning institutions.

Moreover, The DP pledged to not only put incentives for women to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) but also introduce a special Institute for them in the Kenya School of Government to build capacity for women in leadership.

The Alliance also vowed to implement a school feeding programme that will see eight million pupils receive free meals from the current two million.
