Disabled 54-year old cries for mercy after his promotion was reversed by TSC

Joseck Barasa had his appointment letter as Principal reversed by TSC and given to someone else.

A disabled Deputy Principal who was interviewed in December last year for promotion is wondering why he has missed out on promotion again after five attempts in the past.

Joseck Barasa, a teacher at Makunga Secondary School in Mumias East Sub-county, said he  discovered that his name is missing from the list of successful candidates which was published on the TSC website recently.

The  teacher of Physics and Mathematics, a Master’s Degree holder, is still stuck at Grade D1 at 54 years.

He said he passed in one of the interviews  and his name appeared on a list later. He however feels that he was shortchanged because he did not receive the promotion letter.

His TSC number 377457 was published in some media outlets in 2020 as having scored 73.9 per cent in that interview. He says he was among those who were supposed to be promoted to Grade D2 and he expected to be deployed to a new station as principal.

Unfortunately, his purported promotion letter never came. Barasa says earlier in 2020, after going through an interview in 2019,  he saw his name in the list of successful applicants, but never received any letter of appointment.

Barasa has even written to Dr Nancy Macharia, TSC CEO, but nothing came out of the communication.

“So far I have attended 6 TSC interviews in a row unsuccessfully. The best I get is regret letters or no communication at all,” complained Barasa.

And many regrets later, he wonders what just TSC wants to give him a promotion, having satisfied all criteria and requirements.

He has raised the matter severally with the county director’s office, TSC regional office, and even written many letters to the TSC Secretary herself, but no answers have been forthcoming.

The disgruntled deputy feels shortchanged as he also holds a Diploma in Education Management from Kenya Education Management Institute. He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, in addition to other qualifications like being an accomplished trainer in Science and Engineering fair.

The SMASE county trainer got an accident in 2012 while heading to Setek Secondary in Nandi Hills where he was Deputy Principal. He lost his right leg.

An old boy of Mang’u High, he scored a B plain in 1990 and his first posting was to Meteitei Boys High School.
