August 13th was no ordinary day at Daystar University. It marked a special occasion for a man who has become a central figure in the institution’s success story and an inspiration to many, Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro.
Unaware of what awaited him, Prof. Ayiro was taken by surprise when students gathered outside his office, breaking into song and celebration to mark his 68th birthday. The educator, born on August 13, 1957, was visibly moved by the warm gesture from the university community.
The impromptu celebration was filled with singing, cheers, and heartfelt birthday wishes, creating a lively and festive atmosphere across the campus.
Taking to his Facebook page, Prof. Ayiro expressed his gratitude: “Deeply touched by the thoughtful surprise from my amazing students on my birthday. Your kindness inspires me every day.”

The touching moment drew praise from both students and staff, many commending the Vice Chancellor for his close, personal relationship with the Daystar community.
Prof. Ayiro was appointed Vice Chancellor on March 1, 2019, after the university council conducted a rigorous interview process involving six candidates. Since then, he has continued to excel in his role, earning respect from stakeholders who applaud his leadership, especially after an earlier, unsuccessful bid to head Moi University.
