Outspan Global University (OGU) in Nyeri County has officially received its Letter of Interim Authority from the Commission for University Education (CUE), a significant milestone that clears the way for the institution to begin offering university-level degree programmes in Kenya.
The recognition by CUE confirms that the Nyeri-based institution has met the required national standards to operate as a university under interim status.
The formal handover of the letter was marked at the Outspan Global University campus on March 10, 2026, signaling a new chapter for the institution.
With the interim authority in place, OGU is set to roll out key degree programmes including a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
The programmes are designed to respond to the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals and mental health practitioners both locally and globally.
The university builds on more than two decades of experience in healthcare delivery and training through Outspan Medical College and its associated teaching and referral hospital.

By integrating academic instruction with hands-on clinical exposure, the institution aims to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also practically equipped to serve in diverse healthcare settings.
Speaking during the announcement, Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Mungai Mbugua said the approval affirms the university’s vision of strengthening healthcare systems through quality education and professional training.
He noted that the institution is committed to nurturing skilled, compassionate and globally competitive professionals capable of addressing evolving healthcare challenges.
Outspan Global University now positions itself as an emerging centre of excellence focused on advancing education, research and innovation, with a strong emphasis on ethical leadership and community impact.
