CS Mutua: Government to compensate victims of human-wildlife conflicts

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Dr Alfred Mutua today, April 4 visited Narok County to deliberate on enhancing tourism potential and to map out new tourism attraction areas in the county.

Mutua elaborated the ministry’s plan of collaborating with the county to enhance cultural tourism by commercialising the cultural artefacts, establishing cultural and heritage centres, homestays, eco-camps, promoting adventure tourism and enhancing infrastructure network.

He further revealed that the ministry has set aside KSh20 million seed money for the construction of a heritage site in Narok that has been selected as one of the six pilot counties for the compensation scheme for individuals affected by the human-wildlife conflict.

He added that the ministry is in the process of recruiting 30 community scouts to support this process.

Area Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu said that his administration is committed in ensuring that the tourism sector is expanded from the Mara to the rest of the county through the elaborate initiatives that they have agreed upon and which they will continue to put in place.
