Controversy arises as Church claims schools taken by others

CS Owallo addressing Nomiya church over protecting schools under their sponsorship

Controversy has brewed in Rarieda sub-county, Siaya County, over church sponsorship of local primary and secondary schools, with Nomiya Church members claiming that several schools under their patronage have been taken over by other religious institutions.

Speaking at Nyandiwa parish, Acting Pastor Ochieng’ Riako of Nomiya Church Asino parish, under Ogwedhi Diocese, insists that schools like Ndwara primary and secondary, originally sponsored by Nomiya Church, should be reclaimed.

Riako, supported by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, urged Nomiya Church leadership to swiftly reclaim these institutions.

Owalo acknowledged the significance of Nomiya Church as the first African Independent Church and affirmed the government’s commitment to develop it, preserving its religious heritage.

Plans include constructing a mausoleum for the church’s founder, Prophet Johana Owalo, at their Oboch headquarters and improving sponsored schools.

Owalo emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting Nomiya Church’s growth, paralleling other churches with assets.

He called on Nomiya Church members to collaborate with the government to fulfill this commitment.

The Kenya Kwanza government aims to uplift Nomiya Church, recognizing its historical importance, and assures ongoing support for its development.
