Boards of Management of schools across the country have been asked to put in place plans to mitigate against fire outbreaks in schools.
Addressing teachers and board of management committees, Kenyenya sub county director of education Mr. George Ouma raised concern over the increase in fire outbreaks in schools across the country and called for action to curb such cases.
‘Boards of management can curb the fire menace by identifying home tailored remedies in their institutions,’ he advised.
Ouma went on to decry the habit of some committee members who only visit schools during annual meetings to get allowances.
‘Since the beginning of this term, there have been fire outbreaks in more than five schools in the country. School principals should identify relevant personnel in their institutions who can
foresee, assess and prevent the impending arsons beforehand.” He advised.
He added that once such plans are put in place, independent external assessors can be invited over to approve the viability of such projections.
He further asked all schools to retrain their security guards on how to detect and manage fire outbreaks in schools.
