Five girls from St. Mary’s Nyabigena Girls are fighting for their lives at Tabaka Hospital after sustaining severe injuries at their school.
It all began at 10 am on Wednesday when a Form One student allegedly seized a teacher by the neck strangling her during a class session.
This began a racket in the class which bubbled over to other classes which saw confused students run for their lives and jump from storey classrooms causing a stampede in the process.

However, the school Principal alleged that the girl has a medical condition and did not want to choke the teacher.
“The girl had a seizure and tried to get support from the teacher of English, Madam Lydiah. She didn’t want to kill her,” she said.
She added: “Yes there was commotion but it was not caused by electricity as some people are saying.”

While assuring parents of their children’s safety, she disclosed that during by the melee, 75 learners sustained a few injuries as they jumped from their classrooms.
40 of them were treated and discharged while the remaining ones are to remain in hospital for further examination.
“We ask our parents not to panic because what happened to our girls is normal hysteria and they will recover and return to school,” she said.
Parents who visited the school asked the administration to ensure sufficient space for exit in classes and dormitories for escape whenever danger occurs.
