North Eastern and Coast regions are ragging behind in primary to secondary school transition.
Mombasa County that had 18, 790 candidates in 2019 KCPE only 31 per cent managed to enroll in Form One by time of going to the press.
In Turkana only 54 per cent transited to secondary schools out of 11, 561. Kwale County recorded 55 percent transition rate while Kilifi County only 61 per cent joined Form One.
In North Eastern although Garissa had the highest number of candidates enrolling for 2019 KCPE it has the lowest transition rate. Out of 21,367 candidates who sat for 2019 KCPE exam in Garissa on 60 per cent have joined Form One.
Wajir and Mandera have so far recorded 99 and 97 percentages respectively.
Narok had a candidature of 24,975 but only 15,983 reported in Form One or 63 per cent.
Sixty six per cent of students in Marsabit County have reported in their selected secondary schools out of 4,808 candidates.
Tana River County has 74 per cent transition rate against the government’s intended 100 per cent transition policy.
Samburu has attained 79 per cent transition rate. Some counties such as Vihiga and Murang’a have surpassed 100 per cent. Nationally the transition rate stands at 93 per cent according to NEMIS data.
