Tana River County officials have attributed rising cases of child pregnancy, child marriage and drug abuse to poor parenting.
Speaking during the day of the African child, Tana County Commissioner Matthias Rioba said parents have failed to bring up their children in the right way.
“Poor parenting has been a great challenge, and this has been seen through their everyday conversation, which has led to rampant use of drug and miraa chewing”, he said.
Mohamed Dulo who works with KUZA Livelihood improvement projects said violence against children contributes to children resorting to become criminals.
Dulo explained children get into early relationships which cause pregnancy and can lead to early marriage due to desperation.
