Champions crowned as 2026 KSSSA National Games conclude in Kisumu

Friends School Kamusinga, Butere Girls, and Upper Hill School were among the standout winners as the 2026 Brookside Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One Games concluded in Kisumu, capping a week of intense competition across multiple disciplines.

In basketball, Butere Girls clinched the national title in the 5×5 girls’ category after a commanding run that underlined their dominance on the national stage. Kaya Tiwi finished second, while St. Brigid’s secured third place.

The boys’ basketball crown went to Friends School Kamusinga, who produced a clinical performance throughout the tournament to emerge champions. Lukenya School settled for second place, with Laiser Hill Academy completing the podium.

In hockey, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale (JOGA) were crowned champions in the girls’ category following a consistent and disciplined campaign. Nyamira Girls finished as runners-up, while Ng’iya Girls took third place.

The boys’ hockey title was claimed by St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale, who edged out strong competition to lift the trophy. Friends School Kamusinga finished second, with Ringa Boys placing third.

Handball competitions also delivered thrilling contests, with Musingu Boys emerging champions in the boys’ category after a hard-fought campaign. St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale (JOBO) finished second, while Matuu secured third place.
In the girls’ handball category, Moi Girls Kamusinga claimed top honours, overcoming stiff opposition to win the national title. St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale (JOGA) finished second, while Nyakach Girls placed third.

In rugby 15s, Upper Hill School were crowned national champions after an impressive display of physicality and tactical discipline.

Kisii School finished second, while St. Mary’s School, Yala, secured third place.

The conclusion of the national championships once again underscored the strength and depth of school sports in Kenya, with top-performing teams now set to represent the country at the forthcoming East Africa School Games.
