- Participants will receive training aimed at strengthening their capacity to support practical science learning.
The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has announced a specialised training programme targeting laboratory technicians working in secondary schools across Kenya.
The three-day training is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, to Friday, August 21, 2026, at the CEMASTEA headquarters along the Karen–Bogani Road Junction in Nairobi.
Sessions will run daily from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
According to the programme notice, the training targets laboratory technicians serving in both public and private secondary schools, with each school that has a laboratory technician encouraged to sponsor at least one officer.
Participants attending as boarders will pay Sh14,500, while day scholars will pay Sh10,500.
The training comes as Kenya continues to strengthen the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) under the Competency-Based Education framework.
CEMASTEA is mandated to provide in-service education and training for mathematics and science educators at primary and secondary school levels, with its training programmes focusing on improving professional competencies and the quality of curriculum delivery.
Strengthening practical science learning
The institution has in recent months intensified capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening STEM education, including training teachers on the use of virtual laboratories to address gaps caused by inadequate laboratory facilities and equipment in some schools.
The laboratory technicians’ programme is expected to enhance participants’ capacity to support practical science learning and ensure that school laboratories are effectively utilised.
