On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Catholic congregation from the Diocese of Kitale had a rare opportunity to launch the Lenten Campaign for the first time outside the Main Immaculate Cathedral in Kitale.
The occasion took place at Mary Assumption Catholic Church in Makutano, West Pokot County.
During the occasion, Bishop Henry Juma Odonya of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale presided over the mass and launched Lenten Campaign books for Christian consumption.
Notably, a book can be a very powerful tool for conveying messages to society and the nation, enabling positive change. There are so many issues that can be addressed through books; hence, Kenyans are advised to embrace a reading culture.
Such issues include education, environment, water, trade, life skills, and social and economic activities, to mention but a few.
Learners can also be encouraged to read books and articles that help bring about positive change in themselves and society.
The Lenten Campaign for Catholic faithfuls symbolises the humility Jesus demonstrated when he fasted for 40 days. As Christians, we should also fast in order to assist the less fortunate in society.

The Main Theme in the Lenten Campaign books was “BUILDING A JUST, PEACEFUL AND UNITED KENYA: UPHOLDING EQUITY AND HUMAN DIGNITY”.
Among the congregation were learners from St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Primary School. They also received their copies of the Lenten Campaign, which contains messages of foro humanity.
When learners are exposed early to the importance of peaceful coexistence amongst themselves and their neighbours at home, they will understand the value of living alongside other families and communities, thereby building a peaceful nation.
The essence of upholding EQUITY and Human DIGNITY among learners will enable them to build a culture of sharing available resources with others and to resist the spirit of selfishness.
Therefore, it is our responsibility to love, protect, and build our nation, which benefits us now and future generations.
