Campaigns meant to ensure that day secondary school education is free of charge have kicked in Meru County.
Led by the Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi, his deputy Titus Ntonchiu and the County Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga they vowed to do everything possible to thwart any attempt by the principles to charge even a single cent on top of what the Ministry of Education has already given.
Speaking at Thiiri Centre in Imenti North constituency during the official launch of the Ward Development Committee, the three called on all the education stakeholders to be on the lookout and expose anybody found flouting the government directive. Kiraitu warned the head teachers against introducing any extra fees including money meant for lunch through the back door.
He noted that such a move should be resisted at all cost because it is against the Education Ministry policy of making education both free and affordable.
