The County Government of Busia is set to mark a major milestone in technical and vocational education with the official launch of the Namasali Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Culinary Hub on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in an initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical hospitality and culinary skills.
According to the official event announcement, the launch will take place at 9:00 a.m. at Namasali Vocational Training Centre under the theme, “Transforming Busia County Together.”
The event has been organized by the Busia County Government’s Department of Education and Industrial Skills Development and will be hosted by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Industrial Skills Development.
Busia Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma is expected to preside over the ceremony, underscoring the county government’s commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a driver of employment, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
The culinary hub has been established under the Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Programme (KBEST), a partnership involving the Government of Kenya and Colleges and Institutes Canada with support from the Government of Canada. The programme seeks to enhance skills development in sectors with strong employment potential, including hospitality, food production, and the blue economy.

County education officials say the new facility will provide trainees with modern, industry-oriented training that prepares them for careers in hotels, restaurants, catering businesses, and self-employment. The hub is also expected to support innovation in food preparation, value addition, and entrepreneurship among youth.
The launch comes at a time when county governments are increasingly investing in vocational institutions to bridge the gap between education and the labour market. By offering practical, competency-based training, vocational centres are helping young people acquire marketable skills while responding to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the hospitality industry.
Education stakeholders are expected to attend the launch alongside county leaders, development partners, trainers, students, and members of the public. The event is also anticipated to highlight the importance of collaborative partnerships in improving vocational education and expanding opportunities for young people.
The establishment of the Namasali VTC Culinary Hub reflects Busia County’s broader strategy of empowering youth through quality technical education while promoting economic transformation through skills development.
Leaders hope the facility will become a centre of excellence for culinary training and inspire more young people to pursue vocational careers.
With the official opening, the county is expected to further strengthen its investment in TVET institutions, positioning vocational training as a key pillar in creating jobs, reducing unemployment, and supporting sustainable socio-economic development across Busia County.
