The bishop of Nambale Diocese, Anglican Church of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Isaiah Obuya has challenged the girl students to put a lot of effort into their academic work if they wish to excel in future.
Speaking at Busiada Girls Senior School in Butula Sub-county, Busia County, the bishop encouraged the students to work for a future in which they could undertake useful roles in society. Such a future fully depended on what they did at this stage of their lives, the primate said.
Bishop Obuya spoke during the school’s Thanksgiving Day, held on February 17, 2026, on the school grounds.
He urged the learners to be thankful for the opportunity to be at the school, telling them to regard it as the best school to be in.
“Do not be in this school and think that there is a better school elsewhere,” the primate said. “For you, this is where you can achieve your best. Let all your efforts be geared towards that singular objective.”
He congratulated the school administration, the board of management, and the Parents’ Association for their work at the school. He observed that the infrastructure was being developed quite fast. He lauded them especially for the big steps they had taken to ensure IT was up to date. “You have done well to ensure the school has Wi-Fi and CCTV. The teachers and learners can thus access information at any time. This makes the school a modern institution, competing with the best in the country,” he said.

Speaking at the same function, the chairman of the Parents-Teachers’ Association, Mr Leonard Okeka, encouraged learners to remain focused and avoid known temptations that could ruin their lives. He thanked the teachers for exhibiting much care for their learners.
“No meaningful results can be realised in a school where teachers don’t work in harmony,” he said. Teachers who did not like their students would also not be expected to sacrifice time for them, he added. “At Busiada, I have observed a lot of cooperation between teachers. The teachers also work very well with the principal and her deputy. That is a recipe for success in a school situation.”
A member of the Board of Management, Mr Joachim Mwanza, thanked the Bishop, as sponsor of the school, for being supportive. He observed that the sponsor had propped up the school’s management in all their undertakings. Such support is crucial for the school, he said. He urged the continuation of the same.
The school’s Chief Principal informed the guests that the school had 258 candidates and was looking forward to their best results yet. She noted that the results of last year had improved compared to the previous year. She also noted that the Grade 10 learners numbered close to 450 and hoped the number could increase, since the school had sufficient facilities. She requested prayers for the school to stem any mishaps.
In attendance at the function were members of the BoM, church leaders from ACK Nambale Diocese, and several parents.
