Brave student who asked Ruto for job given State House internship

Mercy Mwende, a hospitality student at Nyeri National Polytechnic. Mwende will work as an intern at State House.

 

As the President interacted with students in one of the classrooms at the polytechnic, Mercy Mwende, a trainee in the Department of Hospitality & Tourism, requested for a job.

But in return she was offered an internship opportunity at the State House, as her skills would be assessed first before employment.

President William Ruto and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu with other leaders at Nyeri National Polytechnic yesterday during centenary celebrations of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the country.

“I know in Statehouse we have a hospitality department, right? She asked the President.

The President then laughed.

“It would be my pleasure if you would recognise me at least I work in State House as I do hospitality and accommodation,” she continued further.

President William Ruto accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu PS Esther Muhoria and other leaders congratulate the Nyeri National Polytechnic staff for the successful launch of Jitume ICT Hub during centenary celebrations of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the country.

Ruto then responded to the request promising Mwende internship at the State House.

“Okay, may be what we are going to do Mwende, is, I will need to look at your performance first. You have to be good, right?”

And number two may be what we will do first is to give you a chance to work as an intern and then we can assess you properly.”

“Coming from Nyeri National Polytechnic, I know you will do well”.

President has promised to ensure each constituency in the country has a TVET.
