Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County has commissioned a new 300-bed dormitory, thanks to funding from the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC). The modern facility is expected to ease congestion and improve the learning environment at one of the region’s top-performing extra-county schools.

The dormitory was officially opened on Friday in a ceremony presided over by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. Speaking at the event, Wetang’ula emphasised the importance of robust infrastructure in public schools, particularly those serving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Investment in school infrastructure is not a luxury—it is a necessity,” said Wetang’ula. “Learners in rural and marginalised areas deserve the same quality of facilities as those in urban centres if we are to achieve equity in education.”

The Speaker was accompanied by a delegation of local leaders, including Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Senator Wafula Wakoli, Kanduyi MP John Makali, and several county officials. Their presence underscored the school’s strategic significance in the region’s educational landscape.

Senior Principal Christine Sifuna welcomed the development, calling the dormitory a game-changer for the institution. She thanked KPC for its support, noting that the facility would greatly enhance student comfort and academic focus.

“This investment is a testament to what collaboration between schools and corporate partners can achieve,” said Sifuna. “It empowers us to continue providing quality education in an environment where our girls can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Sifuna also noted that the dormitory would alleviate existing overcrowding, enhance student welfare, and boost morale among both learners and staff.

Cardinal Otunga Girls High School has consistently ranked among the top-performing schools in Western Kenya, known for its strong academic record and disciplined student body. The new dormitory is expected to boost enrollment and reinforce the school’s mission of nurturing excellence.

The project is part of Kenya Pipeline Company’s broader commitment to social investment, particularly in the education sector.
