Boost as Kiambu ECDE learners benefit from exercise books worth KSh8 million

Over 38,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners have received exercise books worth over KSh8 million covering all five learning areas across the 109 centres.

The funds were provided by the Kiambu County administration.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi while launching the exercise books and flagging them off to be handed to the learners said that his vision since he occupied office is to ensure that parents in the informal sectors is to have their children attend well-equipped ECDE centres with hot meals.

“We have a target of having over 45,000 ECDE leaners this year and as of today we are already at 40,000 leaners and 80 per cent belong to parents who are in informal sectors and my vision is to leave no child left behind,” Wamatangi said.

He said that his administration has commissioned 109 completed ECDE centres and will be commissioning another 130 and which are 90 per cent complete. They intend to launch another 62 ECDE centres in this financial year.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi is keen on improving education at all levels.

Mercy Njagi Chief Officer Education said that 38,842 leaners have enrolled in the ECDE centres and are expecting the number to rise to 45,000.
