Bomet University College (BUC) staff on Thursday successfully completed day two of an intensive Fire Safety and First Aid training facilitated by the County Government of Bomet through the Department of Devolution and Special Programs.

The exercise, which forms part of a broader institutional preparedness program, focused on practical demonstrations designed to enhance safety awareness and emergency response capacity within the university environment.

During the training, the participants were exposed to hands-on sessions on basic first aid procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), management of bleeding and fractures, and emergency victim evacuation.

Additionally, staff were trained on fire prevention techniques, safe use of firefighting equipment, and proper response protocols during fire incidents.

According to trainers, the practical nature of the sessions was intended to ensure that learners not only understand theoretical aspects but can also confidently apply lifesaving skills during real-time emergencies.

“Preparedness and immediate response are key to saving lives and minimizing damage during emergencies,” one instructor emphasized.

University management expressed appreciation for the county government’s continued support in building institutional safety capacity, noting that the training will significantly strengthen internal emergency systems.

The initiative, they said, aligns with the university’s strategic goal of promoting a safe learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Staff who attended the program lauded the exercise, terming it an eye-opener on the importance of disaster preparedness.  They affirmed their commitment to applying the knowledge gained to safeguard the university community.

The training marks part of a series of planned capacity-building interventions aimed at equipping BUC personnel with essential safety competencies.

With the growing emphasis on institutional safety standards in learning institutions, BUC continues to demonstrate leadership in ensuring preparedness, rapid response, and protection of lives and property.
